Workshop: Mammoth Wet Plate Photography with Luther Gerlach
You may never have this chance again. This is a hands-on workshop wherein you'll have the chance to use the world's largest-format wet plate collodion camera - Luther Gerlach's infamous 22x30" custom built camera. All participants will go home with their own 22x30 original plate as either a negative or else an ambrotype or tintype!. Luther Gerlach is one of the foremost practitioners of the process - in terms of both practice and theory - he is recognized and used by the Getty Museum for their demonstrations and workshops in the medium. ! All participants in the workshop will go home with a new skill, knowledge and one original mammoth wet plate photograph. The workshop covers some of the following topics:
Prerequisites: experience with the large format camera recommended but not at all necessary Please see our membership page for additional discounts on all workshops! Space in this workshop will be limited to a maximum of 8 (eight) participants. Workshop length is a fully day, held at the dates below at 10 AM . Each participant will be given attention according to their needs. Questions and answers are encouraged throughout the session and individual help is available during the workshops . There will be a lunch break and a tasty panini lunch served with a beverage of your choice. The workshop fee is $275 (members get a discounted rate -and a further $20 off if purchased online, below).There will be an additional lab fee of $100 for this workshop (to cover the increased price of the 22x30 plates and chemistry). Groups also welcome by prior arrangement. Individual instruction is also available upon inquiry. All workshops must be paid for (or else a deposit left) before 72 hours (three days) from the start of a workshop or else a penalty fee of $25 will apply. Please note: there is also a lab fee for this workshop to cover chemistry and related materials. Payment may be made online in advance (see below) at a discounted rate. Payments taken by telephone, fax or in person will be at the normal rate and will not reflect the discount for online purchases.
