He has taught workshops for many years including those for Photographer's Formulary, The Ansel Adams Gallery and the list goes on. This is a terrific chance to take one of his workshops while he's in the area.

This workshop will be focused on the use of the wet plate still life. Long time practitioner Kerik Kouklis will guide you through his thoughts on the process and be showing some of his still life work. This intensive workshop will work you through the potential pitfalls of the still life photograph with the wet plate camera and get you out the other side, bringing renewed vigor to your work - whether or not you've done wet plate work in the past. The workshop will consist of an intitial look at some wet plate work, the history of the medium and strategies for subject/composition. We will then proceed to build some set ups in a special shooting tent outdoors and develop the resulting plates. After a late lunch/seminar we will be looking at the resulting work and discussing the resulting images as well as having a technical debriefing on aesthetics and method.

  1. History of the Wet Plate Process & exploration of Kerik's work and method.
  2. How does it work? What is it?: the theory and a little bit of chemistry behind the process.
  3. Technique: Process overview, coating your plate and best practices.
  4. Camera Technique: Using the Wet Plate / Large format camera. Covers handling,  making an exposure etc...
  5. Shooting on set.
  6. Development and fixing of the images
  7. Lunch & Seminar
  8. Evaluation of resulting work & critique
